Agents are the face of mobile financial services and will play a vital role in the emerging ecosystem in Nigeria. Ongoing trainings and capacity building events are currently on going across the Major towns , cities and it is our sincere hope that villages and underserved communities will be covered in coming weeks.
The challenge of Agency recruitment and management in Nigeria is unique because the agents in some cases may not be selling primary products or services of the licensees as the case where mobile network operators are licensed as a mobile payment providers. Agents will have to be recruited, trained, deployed and managed on a daily basis across the Nation on behalf of the Mobile money providers.
The agency cooperative though novel in Africa will help agents to develop capacity to deliver services, understand their roles and collaborate at local levels to address issues that may impact negatively against the success of their agency and in effect, the whole ecosystem.
The cooperative is in active formation in Lagos and the committees are working on ways to improve liquidity management, agency operations, risk management and agency sustainability in Nigeria.
The cooperative will be formally launched on 1st September,2011 (10am) at University of Lagos Guest and conference centre,Lagos – Nigeria. Attendance is Free but Pre – Registration is required. The following officials can be contacted for further information.
